East Coast Pleasure: Ocean City - Maryland

Ocean City, Maryland, offers residents and visitors to the east coast a quite enjoyable beach destination.

Though not large in size, Ocean City has, over the years, become a locale with houses, condos and apartments for rent by the thousands.

The first recorded beach front cottage to receive paying guests was built in 1869 by Isaac Coffin. Boarding houses followed. Then a semi-planned development. Prior to all this occurring, the area that is Ocean City was known as "The Ladies' Resort to the Ocean."

However, it was not until the 1970's, following completion of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, that serious mass development came to Ocean City with thousands of condominiums constructed.

Despite the 300,000 to 400,000 visitors that may descend upon the 36 square mile resort during the peak summer season there is ample beauty to be enjoyed.

And then there are those who plan their trip to follow the Labor Day weekend, taking advantage of smaller crowds without sacrificing great weather.
Ocean City, Maryland, awaits.

Over For Now.
